In our post-Pandapocalyptic world, you’d think most SEO’s would’ve already gotten a clue and changed their ways. But no, quite a number of them still insist on treating it as a numbers game. In fact, as I was writing this post, someone sent me an email selling me some “PR6 backlinks”!
I know, right? That is sooo 10 years ago. Which is precisely why I’m calling this infographic “The Undead of SEO Marketing”, they just won’t stay down in the ground! After all the penalties that have hit them, they just keep on coming back, doing the same stuff over and over again.
But how is it possible for these SEO’s to still survive? Unfortunately enough, there are still a lot of unsuspecting clients out there to prey on. These undead SEO’s take advantage of the client’s lack of technical knowledge and desire for immediate gratification, and while some of them do deliver the results they promise, like a spike in traffic or an increase in ranking, these perceived “gains” almost never translate into conversions. And when the budget is exhausted and the penalties hit, they just leave the client hanging and move onto the next victim.
As SEO’s, or online marketers as we’d rather be called nowadays, we’ll always try and find new ways to “game” the system. I don’t think it’s a bad thing, but to prevent ourselves from turning into the “undead”, we need to focus on what the user needs first, and use that as your guiding principle. Its time for seo’s to put marketing first and google’s algorithm second. If you agree i would love to hear your feedback in the comments.
